This Cookie Notice ("Notice") provides information about how and why Carbon Direct Inc. dba Relae and its affiliates (individually or collectively, "Relae", "we", "us", or "our") may use cookies, pixels, and similar tracking technologies (collectively, "Cookies") to collect and use data on Relae's websites, electronic blogs and forums, third-party partner websites, direct mailings, applications, programs, and platforms (together, "Sites") in connection with the services and products offered by Relae (collectively, "Services"). Except as otherwise stated in this Notice, our Privacy Policy governs our collection, use, disclosure, storage, and protection of Personal Data collected through Cookies.

What are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files and similar technologies that a Site – when visited by a user – asks your browser to store on your device in order to remember information about you. Cookies are then sent back to the originating Site on each subsequent visit, or to another Site that recognizes that Cookie. Cookies that Relae uses include session Cookies, which are deleted when you close your browser, and persistent Cookies, which stay in your browser until they expire or you delete them.

Why Does Relae Use Cookies?

The information Relae collects using Cookies helps Relae to provide, protect, and improve the Relae Services and the Sites with which you interact. Some Cookies collect or process Personal Data, while others collect information that does not identify an individual. Where Cookies collect Personal Data, we process that information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. While the Cookies Relae uses may change from time to time as Relae improves and updates its Services, Relae uses them for the following purposes:

  • Security, Site, and Service Integrity: to help Relae keep your accounts, data, and its Services safe and secure.
  • Site Features and Services: to enable the functionality that help provide the Services and the Sites and assist you in navigating them more efficiently.
  • Authentication: to verify your account and determine when you're logged in so that Relae can make it easier for you to access its Services, Sites, and events, and provide appropriate functionality and user experience.
  • Personalized Experience with its Sites and Services: to personalize content you see on its Sites and in its communications with you. Relae may keep a record of your prior interaction with its Sites and mailings (e.g., pages viewed, articles and links clicked on and downloaded, etc.) to aid in this personalization.
  • Analytics and Research: to better understand how people use its Site and Services to improve them.
  • Recommendations and Promotions: to assist with its promotional and marketing efforts.
  • Requirements: for jurisdictions where it is required, Relae processes data collected through non-essential Cookies based on your consent.

What Types of Cookies Does Relae Use?

  • Origin. Cookies are referred to as "first-party" if they are placed by a Site that is visited and "third-party" if they are placed by a party other than the visited Site (such as an advertiser or analytics system).
  • Duration. "Session Cookies" are temporary and expire once you close your browser (or once your session ends). "Persistent Cookies" remain on your hard drive until you erase them, or your browser does, depending on the Cookie's expiration date.
  • Purpose. Cookies used by Relae can be divided into four categories, depending on their intended purposes: Strictly Necessary Cookies, Performance Cookies, Functional Cookies, and Targeting Cookies.

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These Cookies are necessary for the Services and Sites to function properly and are essential to facilitate authentication, registration, security, or log-in processes and enable you to navigate and use Site features. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these Cookies, but some parts of the site will not work. These Cookies do not store any personally identifiable information.

Performance Cookies

These analytic Cookies allow Relae to count visits and traffic sources so Relae can measure and improve the performance of its Sites. They help Relae to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors use the Sites. These Cookies generally collect information in aggregated or pseudonymous form and are designed to help us understand how visitors use our Sites rather than directly identify individual users. If you do not allow these Cookies, Relae will not know when you have visited its Site and will not be able to monitor its performance.

Functional Cookies

These Cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalization by keeping a record of your interaction with its Sites (e.g., pages viewed, articles clicked on/downloaded, links you have clicked on in its mailings, etc.). They may be set by Relae or by third party providers whose services Relae has added to its pages. If you do not allow these Cookies, then some or all of these services may not function properly. For example, these Cookies help remember your preferences and improve your experience across the Sites.

These Cookies generally collect information in aggregated or pseudonymous form, and the information collected by these Cookies is generally not intended to directly identify you, but it may relate to your browser, device, or interactions with our Sites.

Targeting Cookies

These Cookies may be set through its Site by its advertising partners. These third parties may collect information over time and across different websites or online services, subject to their own privacy policies. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant advertisements on other sites. They do not store directly personal information but are based on uniquely identifying your browser and device. Note: opting out of certain Targeting Cookies will not remove advertising from the Sites you interact with; instead any ads you see may not be targeted to your interests.

How Do I Control or Delete Cookies Through My Browser?

Most browsers allow you to manage how cookies are set and used as you're browsing, and to clear cookies and browsing data (usually located within the "Help," "Settings," "Tools", or "Edit" facility). Also, your browser may have settings allowing you to manage Cookies on a site-by-site basis. Please be aware that if you make updates to your browser or device settings or use an online link to opt out of Cookies, those updates apply to the device where you made the changes. These controls vary by browser, and manufacturers may change both the settings they make available and how they work at any time. If you set your browser to disable certain Cookies, you may not be able to access certain parts of the Sites and other parts of the Sites may also not work properly. Disabling Cookies does not automatically remove Cookies that have already been placed on your device. Existing Cookies may need to be deleted through your browser settings.

How Do I Manage Cookie Preferences on Your Website?

Where required by applicable law, you may be given the option to accept or reject non-essential Cookies through a cookie banner or similar consent mechanism when you visit our Sites. You may also manage Cookies through your browser settings as described above.

Changes to Cookie Notice

We may update this Cookie Notice from time to time to reflect changes in our Services, applicable law, or our Cookie practices. For minor changes, we will update the 'Last Updated' date at the top of this Notice. For material changes, we may provide additional notice through appropriate means, including through our Sites or other communications where appropriate.
